Putting a lid on it
The top panel would be a pretty simple piece as I really just wanted to simplify what was already there, and what better way to do this than with another 2mm piece of brushed black aluminium?
To cut the piece to size, I just removed the big plastic piece from the top of the Cosmos 1000 and traced the shape onto a piece of cardboard (there is a little lip to go by on the silver plastic pieces).
I used this as a template for the aluminium, which I then cut out with the scroll saw and sanded the edges smooth.
You will note that I used my Italian safety glasses for this cutting job – safety and style are both very, very important.
With the outside done, the case was almost complete. All I had to do was put it together! Or so I thought...
Tinkering under the hood
In terms of specs, this is the best computer I have ever had. It is complete with:
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650
- GPU: Zotac GeForce 8800 GTS 512
- RAM: Corsair 2GB PC3-10666 CAS9
- PSU: Cooler Master 1000W Modular
- Motherboard: Asus Maximus Extreme
- Sound card: Asus Xonar D2
To complete the case, I wanted to bring the same theme of the clean outside design into the inside, as well as find a place for the
Coheed and Cambria name. Luckily, Cooler Master designed some sort of wire holder thing (what on earth is it, anyway?) that would serve such a purpose perfectly. I used the same painting technique for this as I did the lettering.
Then to complete the look and hide some of the wires, I decided to make a quick shield out of some silver MeshX panel, also from AC Ryan.
